Avoiding scalding is one obvious advantage of lowering the water temperature, on top of saving a lot of money on oil costs.

Older windows should be replaced if possible to prevent heat being lost this way. Having double glazing and tightly fitted windows can prevent cold air from entering the house in the winter and can mean you will need to keep the heating on for less time meaning less spent on oil.
